Amari Cooper turned down top offer from Redskins

The Redskins had their sights set on bringing Amari Cooper to the nation's capital, but even with a larger offer, he opted to remain with the Cowboys.

Cooper re-signed with Dallas on a five-year, $100 million contract, but according to reports from ESPN's Ed Werder, the Redskins' offer was even more.

The Redskins have a glaring need at the wide receiver position. Outside of rookie standout Terry McLaurin, the team got next-to-nothing from the group in 2019.

Bringing Cooper into the fold would have helped solidify the Redskins' depth outside and given Dwayne Haskins another target to look at in his second season.

With their pursuits unsuccessful, they can look to other free agent receivers still on the open market, or turn their attention to the 2020 NFL Draft, and look to build from there.

Cooper will remain in the NFC East for the foreseeable future, but he won't be sporting burgundy and gold.
