Backstrom motivated Burakovsky before Game 7

The Washington Capitals are less than 24 hours away from the biggest game that anyone on the team has played. That makes it the perfect time for wacky Media Day bits.

As Nicklas Backstrom politely answered questions from the gathered media, he was hijacked by Andre Burakovsky, the hero from Game 7.

Burakovsky's eventual question didn't really matter--what he revealed was more interesting. Apparently, Backstrom could be the reason he played out of his mind in Game 7.

Burakovsky: "Nick, I have a question for you right here."

Backstom: "Yeah? You been thinking about this for a long time?"

Burakovsky: "No, I've just been letting everyone else get a word here. Before Game 7, in the morning, you kinda came up to me in the morning, kinda with a bad attitude and asked me, 'Are you ready?'..."

Backstrom: "...Regarding that Game 7, I just wanted you fired up before Game 7, and there you go."

Burakovsky: "Well, it worked out pretty good, so trust me, I'm going to get you fired up tomorrow morning too."

That's some good, wholesome conversation. I have a feeling, though, that Backstrom didn't just say, "are you ready," if that's the type of performance that Burakovsky produced.

While he had the spotlight, he also had to knock Backstrom for his playoff beard. Neither guy is rocking the Braden Holtby beard, but Burakovsky had to gloat a little.

"I asked Braden before, who had the worst playoff beard on the team? He said me, but I think mine is way better than yours," Burakovsky jabbed. "Yours is...yeah, not so good. What do you have to say about that?"

"This is the best I've had," admitted the playoff veteran. "I can't do anything better."

"Well, we're sitting in the same boat, my friend," Burakovsky said with a grin.

Just a little good-natured ribbing that will hopefully translate into more playoff success.
