The Sports Junkies' Eric Bickel joined Grant & Danny Thursday to recount how he received information about Redskins quarterback Alex Smith suffering serious complications following surgery after suffering a broken tibia and fibula during Washington's Week 11 loss to Houston.

"It's not good at all," Bickel said. "And I don't feel confident that he's going to be able to come back if what I'm hearing is true."

"Without question he's having complications, I've heard certain numbers, on certain number times they've gone in," Bickel said. "I've heard details that I don't feel comfortable putting out there, but he's having serious problems."

The Redskins released a statement after Bickel's report asking to "honor the Smith family's request for privacy at this time," but did not address Smith's health specifically.

Bickel recounts getting the information from a few well-placed sources around the Redskins organization beginning last Friday.

"I got some information last Friday about complications," Bickel said about a source who would be in the know.

"Someone reached out to me the next day and said that they heard through someone in the Redskins, I won't say who, but someone that works in a certain department, that (Smith) had been battling terrible infections and that it was, you know, basically, potentially a career ender. Like, very bleak," Bickel said.

Bickel acknowledges he isn't a reporter who mines sources, but after getting confirmation from his first source and a third source who spoke with The Junkies' Jason Bishop, there was enough information to go with.

"And I just wanted to put it out there because I believe it to be true. And I think he's having real difficulties," Bickel said. "They're throwing around some crazy words, too, relating to the difficulties."
