Like almost every sports rumor that becomes a runaway train of reckless speculation, it all began on social media.

Yes, for a few moments on Saturday afternoon Minnesota Vikings' star receiver and Gaithersburg, Maryland native Stefon Diggs was potentially, possibly, maybe just maybe heading to the Washington Redskins.

The hubbub seemingly started when Diggs' brother Tevon posted a graphic created by DC Sports Experience of Diggs wearing a Redskins uniform on his Instagram.

In his Instagram story, Tevon wrote about his brother, "Bring him home."

Tevon Diggs created a stir when he posted picture of Stefon Diggs in a Redskins uniform.

And despite the fact the elder Diggs signed a five-year, $72 million contract extension with the Vikings less than eight months ago, the possibility of a homecoming whipped out many people's better judgment.

Then, suddenly, the internet rumblings and unlikely hopes of Redskins fans gained a big ally: Redskins running back Derrius Guice

Could this rumor be picking up steam?

Needless to say, Redskins fans were quite enthused by this news and Stefon Diggs became a trending topic on Twitter.

Guice even had the perfect retort when told of Diggs' contract situation.

Unfortunately for Redskins fans, while a lie may travel halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on, the truth eventually was fully clothed and ready to go.

And 106.7 The Fan Redskins reporter Craig Hoffman was there to squash this fun rumor.

Oh, well.
