The Washington Capitals will open the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a series against the Carolina Hurricanes. The series starts on Thursday night at the Capital One Arena

This is the first time that the two teams have met in the playoffs, giving this series a blank slate. The Caps are coming off a four-game regular season series sweep of the 'Canes, with the last game coming at the end March.

Both teams are riding hot, with the Caps capturing a fourth-straight Metro Division title and a fifth-straight 100-point season.

The Hurricanes made the playoffs for the first time in a decade, riding behind the leadership of former Capital Justin Williams. A popular term to describe the team is "scrappy."
