To borrow a phrase from former coach Jim Zorn, Alex Smith and the 2018 Washington Redskins have pretty much stayed medium this season.

They are 3-2 and in first place in the NFC East, but have not won or lost more than one game in a row. They've scored 106 points while allowing 104. They are the definition of staying medium.

Their medium leader is Alex Smith, who has put up below medium numbers through the first five games. He has yet to log a 300-yard passing day, his average completion is just seven yards, and he has five turnovers on the year.

But that didn't stop NFL analyst Deion Sanders from offering this glowing review on the NFL Network:

"You’re darn right he has," Sanders said. "Not only has he made them better, he's made them more effective, more efficient, and he has them in the lead in the NFC East."

Keep in mind that the East might be the NFC's worst division, with three medium teams and the New York Giants. Please continue, Deion.

"Alex Smith is a better quarterback in this situation right now in Washington," he said. "I love what he’s doing; those guys believe in him."

Since Sanders offers no context (or evidence) for his comments, it would be interesting to know what he's referring to.
