For the third time this year, a Washington, D.C. sports team is playing for a league championship, as the Washington Mystics take on the Seattle Storm for the WNBA Championship.

As has become customary with any professional championship, the mayors of the respective cities have agreed to a friendly wager that includes a number of local fixtures.

If the Mystics win, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser stands to gain a gift basket full of products from women-owned businesses in Seattle, including:

  • Cupcake Royale;
  • Fremont Brewing;
  • Fuel Coffee;
  • Fran’s Chocolates;
  • Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream;
  • Rachel’s Ginger Beer and Glassybaby votives in Storm colors.

Mayor Jenny Durkan will also be required to Mystics jersey for at least long enough to take a photo. Bowser is confident that no such D.C.-themed gift basket will be needed.

"Seattle or DC? Obviously DC," she said, quoting the marketing line used to attract Amazon in the HQ2 search. "We’ve dealt with our fair share of storms in D.C. this summer, and we’re prepared to handle one more. I look forward to cheering on (Elena) Delle Donne and the rest of the Mystics as they bring another championship and gift basket to the District."

If she's wrong, here's what Bowser has promised to send to Durkan:

  • Flowers from Lee’s Flower and Card Shop;
  • CIVIC Vodka;
  • Baked by Yael cake pops;
  • Half-smokes from Ben’s Chili Bowl.

Bowser would also be required to don a Storm jersey.

Tip-off for Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, in a best-of-five series, is Friday at 9 p.m. in Seattle. The series will come home for Games 3 and 4 starting on Wednesday.
