Nats fans greet Bryce Harper with loud boos

Welcome back, Bryce Harper! It took a while to take the field after an extended rain delay, but D.C. fans waited around to celebrate his return.

With a whole lot of boos.

After an awkward offseason of shopping the Nats' best offer, signing with one of the team's top rivals, and a thank you to fans that took weeks to write, Bryce Harper walked to home plate in a stadium where he used to hear roars of applause.

Washington Nationals fans made clear that there is no love left for the former face of the franchise. Even as a tribute video of Harper's best D.C. moments played on the stadium's giant video board, fans either crossed their arms and said nothing, or booed for the prodigal son.

Those boos continued until Nats ace Max Scherzer struck him out, swinging. Then the stadium roared with approval:

In his second at-bat, Harper got smoked by another Scherzer offspeed pitch, giving him two swinging strikeouts in his first two at-bats at Nats Park in 2019.

Nationals fans once again roared with approval. Some even dressed for the occasion, letting Harper know what D.C. thinks of his defection:

But wait, maybe Nationals fans just needed to get that out of the way. Maybe they can remember the good times?

Maybe not. As he trotted out to take his familiar spot in right field, fans let him have it again:
