With the 13th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected defensive tackle Da'Ron Payne (6-3, 311 pounds) out of Alabama.

Payne declared for the draft after his junior season at Alabama but had a productive career in his previous two seasons.

In 2017, he finished with 53 tackles and a sack, earning first-team All-SEC honors, second-team All-American honors. In 2016, he was a 15-game starter at nose tackle next to current Redskins defensive end Jonathan Allen, tallying 36 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Like Allen last year, he has a good chance of making an immediate impact on the defense, giving the team a bona fide nose tackle to build around, and strengthing a team that has made a years-long commitment to getting better in the trenches.
