What does Kareem Hunt's suspension mean for Reuben Foster?

The NFL has suspended Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt for eight games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

The question for Washington Redskins fans becomes: What does this mean for Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster?

Foster was placed on the Commissioner Exempt List soon after he was claimed off waivers by the Redskins following a domestic violence arrest in Tampa. (The 49ers released Foster following the incident at the team's hotel in Florida.) Foster's ex-girlfriend Elissa Ennis recounted the alleged assault in Tampa and a prior instance when police officers were called to their Santa Clara home in an interview with ABC News.

Ennis said she was surprised the Redskins claimed Foster so soon after the latest incident.

"When he got signed, I was like, 'I can't believe somebody picked him up,'" Ennis said in an interview with ABC News in December. "I just couldn't believe somebody picked him up in less than... how many hours? I was shocked."

Foster remains on the Commissioner Exempt List and did not appear for the Redskins during the 2018 season. The chargers against Foster for the incident in Florida were later dropped

Redskins president Bruce Allen told the media in January the Redskins expect Foster to contribute to the team in 2019.

"Clearly, he's cleared from Florida. The league is still finishing their investigation of it," Allen said at the Senior Bowl. "We finished our investigation with it. He's working hard, he's healthy and doing the things that we have mandated that he do in order to ever wear the Burgundy and Gold."

"I don't know why we would expect a suspension, but we'll let the league finish it," Allen said.

However, this doesn't mean Foster will escape punishment from the league.

Earlier in January, Redskins reporter J.P. Finlay told The Sports Junkies he still expects the NFL to suspend Foster.

"I think it's important for fans to recognize that because the chargers down in Florida were dropped, it does not mean he is completely cleared by the NFL," Finlay told 106.7 The Fan. "I fully believe that there will be a suspension for Reuben Foster from the league."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in his pre-Super Bowl press conference the league has not yet made a determination about Foster.

“We continue our investigation into that,” Goodell said. “Whether charges are dropped doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t a violation of our personal conduct policy. Reuben and I have met before. We will talk again. But we’ll conclude that investigation and make a determination, and we’ll go from there.”

Allen remains optimistic: "We're hoping for him and us that he's able to play."

"Once again, all the charges were dropped, there's been no complaints," he told reporters at the NFL Combine. "And so, it's time for him to play football."

With Hunt suspended eight games and the NFL previously suspending Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott for six games, there is precedent for the league to suspend Foster, further delaying his Redskins debut.

All the Redskins can do now is wait.
