Montae Nicholson arrested on assault and battery charge

Redskins safety Montae Nicholson was arrested in Ashburn, Va. early Tuesday morning on charges of assault and battery and drunk in public.

According to the police report, Nicholson and a female companion, Syndey A. Maggiore, assaulted a man and a woman in Ashburn, Va., Maggiore hitting the female victim with a bottle.

Nicholson and Maggiore were detained at Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, and the Redskins safety was released on a $2,500 bond. 

Redskins Senior VP of Communications Tony Wyllie issued a statement regarding the arrest:

"We are aware of the arrest of Montae Nicholson. We are gathering more information and will not comment until we have further details."

On Wednedsday, a listener -- and alleged witness to the incident -- defended Nicholson's actions to The Sports Junkies, saying the Redskins player was being robbed. 

Chad Dukes and 106.7 The Fan Redskins insider Chris Russell reacted to the news of Nicholson's arrest as it broke Tuesday afternoon.

TMZ Sports released video of the alleged incident Wednesday, the footage appearing to show Nicholson punch another man in the face. 

Jay Gruden announced on Wednesday Nicholson will not play against the Titans Saturday as the team gathers more information on the incident.
