After an 82-game delay, the Capitals can finally begin their quest to defend their Stanley Cup title Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, and they couldn't be more excited about the opportunity.

"I think you guys are gonna see another level to our team," Brett Connolly told 106.7 The Fan during his weekly Grant & Danny appearance, presented by F.H. Furr.

"We've had a good season, for sure, but guys are excited to get to that level that we were at last year in the playoffs with the forechecking and the hitting," he said. "We've got a heavy team – we can play a lot of different ways, we can play a lot of different teams different ways. We'll be ready to go.

"I think it's exciting. We need to just keep playing the way we've been playing since the trade deadline. We got a couple guys and we've been winning, giving ourselves a chance to win every night. So we just need to keep doing the little things that we've been doing and raise our level a little bit emotionally, which we will."

"Our building will be rocking on Thursday," he said. "It's gonna be fun. The guys are gonna be going all out. It's the best time of the year and, for a lot of guys, we're very excited to try to get it done again."

Asked for a specific player fans should look for to step up, in the way Evgeny Kuznetsov or Devante Smith-Pelly upped their contributions during the 2018 Stanley Cup run, Connolly wasn't quick to single out any one player.

"There's gonna be a lot of guys stepping up," he said. "Last year was no question. It's gonna be fun to see. There's gonna be a few guys who are really gonna elevate their game and hopefully we can get it done again.

"There'll be a couple guys who will be heroes, kind of like Lars Eller scoring a game-winning goal in the finals last year, which was an unbelievable moment for me, just getting a front-row seat to watch him put that in the empty net. It's gonna be fun."

"Guys are ready to chip in and do their part, and that's kind of our team," he added. "We've got a close team, and everyone's pushing for each other and pulling for each other. It's the best time of the year and it's gonna happen right away Thursday. There's gonna be a hero on Thursday night, so very, very excited for that."
