Most Redskins fans are excited about first-round pick Dwayne Haskins. Others are more reserved in their enthusiasm, taking the wait-and-see approach.

And some are outright nervous, understandably so, considering how things ended with the last quarterback Washington selected in the first round: Robert Griffin III. For the latter two groups, here's your reassurance that everything will work out just fine:

"We have a great system and a great environment to develop a quarterback," Redskins president Bruce Allen said Tuesday on ESPN's 'First Take.'

The Redskins might even have the "perfect environment" to nurture a young player, according to Allen.

This response came when Allen was asked how much pressure the Redskins feel to "insert" Haskins "into the mix almost immediately."

"Well, we're gonna try to get every player acclimated immediately," Allen replied. "We do have to start out fast this year. We open with the Philadelphia Eagles and we're gonna have our best lineup on the field."

"As far as Dwayne, we have a great system and a great environment to develop a quarterback," he said. "Our offensive coordinator, our quarterback coach, our senior assistant all played quarterback in the NFL. Our head coach was a quarterback. And of course we have Doug Williams in the building. And we think we have the perfect environment to nurture a young player."

Now here comes that extra measure of reassurance you seek:

"And don't forget, the secret ingredient maybe for Patrick Mahomes was Alex Smith," Allen claimed. "So we're pleased to have Alex and this group to help mentor a quarterback."

There 'ya go. The Redskins can most certainly help Dwayne Haskins transition from college sensation to franchise QB in the NFL because:

1) They have a lot of quarterbacks in the building

2) They have the most important quarterback in the building

Kevin O'Connell + Tim Rattay + Matt Cavanaugh + Jay Gruden + Doug Williams + Patrick Mahomes Whisperer Alex Smith = prosperous NFL career for Dwayne Haskins

Here's how the rest of Bruce's interview went.

Your reaction when the Giants took Daniel Jones

"Well, really we weren't that surprised. We had heard that they liked him a little bit and Daniel had a good career. We were just hoping the board would fall the way it did. We were excited to get Dwayne, and then be able to trade back up into the first round and pick up Montez Sweat made it a great evening for the Redskins."

Which QB was highest on your board?

"You know, that's not something we would discuss. And I've heard all of these different comments that people had a sense of what we were thinking. I promise you that's not true. We wanted to get Dwayne. We felt that there was a chance he could get to us at 15, and we're pleased that we kept all of our ammo and were able to add 10 players in this draft."

When you thought he might fall to 15?

"You hope he would fall to 15. You never know because of the way the trades work. No different than what we had to do later in the first round getting Montez Sweat. I'm sure some teams were thinking about selecting him, but when trades happen, it change the entire draft board. It worked out well for us.

"He's a dynamic player. He had a great season last year at Ohio State. And it wasn't just magnificent statistics; once we met the young man and found out his desire to be a great football player, that's what really sold us."

How much pressure do the Redskins feel to insert Haskins into the mix almost immediately?

"Well, we're gonna try to get every player acclimated immediately. We do have to start out fast this year. We open with the Philadelphia Eagles and we're gonna have our best lineup on the field. As far as Dwayne, we have a great system and a great environment to develop a quarterback.

And we think we have the perfect environment to nurture a young player. And don't forget, the secret ingredient maybe for Patrick Mahomes was Alex Smith, so we're pleased to have Alex and this group to help mentor a quarterback."

How close do you feel you are now to winning the NFC East?

"Well, that's the goal going into every season. I know sports gambling's legal -- we're not allowed to do it. We're just gonna focus on today. We started our second phase of on-the-field work and the coaches are getting with all of our veterans. Once we get the rookies in here in a week, we'll try and get ready for that Philadelphia game."

How do you think Haskins got to 15?

"Well, we're happy he did. This was a strong defensive draft at the top of the draft. There were a lot of very good football players that we felt were gonna go off the board early, and I think that's what happens. A couple years ago, Jonathan Allen fell to us at 17 because there were a lot of offensive players, teams had a run on offensive players. So you never know how the draft will work out, we're just happy the way it did."

Why you drafted Montez Sweat and what you're expecting from him?

"You know, he has those rare traits. The length, the size, the speed is very rare. He was very productive at Mississippi State, over 20 sacks the last two years, and then at the Senior Bowl he competed against the best players. From talking to his coaches, and the way our coaches and scouts felt about him, that's why we made the move to move up into the first round and feel like we got two of the best players in this draft."

Any concern about the heart condition? No concerns about that?

"No, Stephen. First of all, let me say the doctors trump everything. You could have a super scout who thinks something, but if the doctors say he can't play, but we're very comfortable with that."
