Bryce Harper dropped a bomb before the Home Run Derby even began Monday.

At a dedication ceremony for the Bryce Harper All-Star Complex in Herndon that morning – and with former Nationals manager Davey Johnson in attendance – Harper exuded his close bond with Nats manager Dave Martinez, also at the event.

"Davey Martinez, I mean he's – sorry, Davey Johnson – but he's one of the best managers I've ever played for," Harper said. "His door's open every single day, I mean he's got a heart that, you know, I really play for a manager like this guy. I look forward to hopefully playing with him for the next 10-12 years."

"He's one of the best, so, hopefully – you know, we'll see what happens."

Maybe Harper was just caught up in the emotion of the day, which would culminate with him capturing the 2018 Home Run Derby crown. Maybe he was deliberate with his words. Either way, Harper still has Nats fans hanging on every word, hoping they can hang on to another year of him.
