Alex Ovechkin isn't just a great hockey player. He's a great human being, and that was on full display before the Capitals' Thursday night game against the Hurricanes.

Meredith Woods celebrated her 18th birthday by going to see the Caps, and Ovechkin gave her an amazing present.

Honestly, I'd cry too if I got a puck from the "Great 8."

"I never expected Ovi would do that," Woods told NBC Sports Washington after the special moment. "It was just really awesome and I'm so thankful."

Thursday was a great day to be Alex Ovechkin, who was named the Metropolitan Division's All-Star captain, and the Caps took down the Hurricanes 3-1, Ovechkin recording an assist in the victory. He has now tallied at least a point in 16 of the last 18 games.

However, Thursday will certainly be a night Meredith Woods will never forget.
