The Capitals have re-signed Madison Bowey to a two-year contract, GM Brian MacLellan announced Thursday.

The 23-year-old defenseman is set to earn an average annual value of $1 million on his new deal.

Bowey, who made his NHL debut in Oct. 2017, recorded 12 points (on 12 assists) in 51 games for the Caps last season. Although he never logged any time on the ice in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the right-handed defenseman figures to be big contributor on the 2018-19 roster with the exit of veteran Brooks Orpik. Bowey recorded eight points, on two goals and six assists, in nine games for the Hershey Bears in 2017-18.

The Caps selected Bowey in the second round – 53rd overall – in the 2013 NHL Draft.
