David Bote's walk-off grand slam to defeat the Nationals, which came with the Cubs trailing 3-0 and down to their final strike, left Nats fans stunned Sunday night.

How rare was Bote's homer? Chris Hoiles delivered Major League Baseball's last 'ultimate grand slam' – a walk-off slam that erases a three-run deficit – for the Baltimore Orioles on May 17, 1996.

As Cubs play-by-play announcer Pat Hughes was sharing the electric moment with his listening audience, Charlie Slowes had to deliver the bad news to Washington.

Slowes appropriately characterized the Nats loss as "about as demoralizing a finish to a game that I have ever seen for the Nationals."
