Dave Martinez: Bryce wants Nationals fans to be 'all-in'

July 17, 2018 - 4:17 pm

The Bryce Harper fans witnessed at Nationals Park Monday night, fist-pumping and urging the crowd onto its feet with each seed he planted into the right field seats, that's the Bryce Nationals fans fell in love with, and that's the electricity Harper wants to see from the hometown crowd.

Nats manager Dave Martinez, who bear-hugged Harper as he won the Home Run Derby, tells Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier Harper fed off the energy of the fans. And the skipper painted a much more optimistic picture about the impending free agent's future.

"Here's a kid that was in the league at 19. He's gonna be a free agent," Martinez said. "He never talks about being a free agent. Wants to play in Washington – he's told me that numerous times, so he doesn't even think about that."

"All he thinks about is winning a championship here, now," he said. "And he wants the people to be in. That's what he wants. He wants the fans to be all-in."
