Game 7: Hurricanes come to life in second period

April 24, 2019 - 9:29 pm

The Capitals had a golden opportunity to take a commanding lead midway through the second period of Game 7 against the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Until Braden Holtby fell asleep at the wheel, allowing a short-handed goal on a Washington power play. Center Sebastian Aho made the heady play, bringing Carolina within one goal of the Caps.

The Caps regained their two-goal lead a short time later, when Carl Hagelin found Evgeny Kuznetsov squared up with the net on the 3-1 breakaway.

But Carolina wasn't done. Teuvo Teravainen slipped this biscuit in the basket to pull the Canes back within one heading into second intermission.

Strap in! It's gonna be a rough ride in the third period!
