Magic Johnson sent the NBA world into a tailspin Tuesday night with his stunning announcement he's stepping down as the Lakers president of basketball operations.

While Johnson's resignation obviously affects Los Angeles most directly, as Fred Katz of The Athletic notes, this decision could have some consequences for the Wizards.

The Wizards need a new team president and general manager after firing Ernie Grunfeld last week. And now the Lakers, the most storied franchise in the NBA, do, too.

Wizards owner Ted Leonsis touted the opening within his organization last Wednesday, calling it "the best important open job in all of sports right now."  However, can he still say that after Johnson's departure from the Lakers?

Los Angeles not only has the history, but also boasts the most popular and arguably best player on the planet, LeBron James, several young, talented players and should have a sizable amount of cap space this summer.

The Wizards, meanwhile, have Bradley Beal, some cap space after trading away Otto Porter and Markieff Morris before the deadline, and beyond that plenty of question marks. That includes John Wall, who may not even see the court in 2019-20 after rupturing his Achilles.

The job in Washington is no doubt still an enticing opportunity for any skilled NBA GM candidates. But compared to the opening in LA, it's easy to see why the Lakers job would look more appealing.
