"It's better to be lucky than good," as the saying goes, and after the statistical anomaly that was the Redskins' 16-3 win over the Buccaneers Sunday, Jay Busbee thinks Washington has more luck than most.

"They are the luckiest team in the NFL right now," Busbee told The Junkies Monday. "They're way up on turnover differential, they're maximizing their chances. They somehow draw a team that runs up 500 yards of offense, and only scores one field goal."

"I was trying to mathematically figure out how that's even possible. It seems like Tampa Bay would have just stumbled ass-backwards into the end zone at some point with 500 yards, but they didn't. It's the old line about 'better to be lucky than good,' and right now the Redskins are very, very lucky."

However, it takes more than sheer luck to get to 6-3 and have a two-game lead in the division. For example, the Redskins have a +11 turnover differential — third-best in the NFL — which is a result of strong defense and an offense that, while not necessarily explosive, takes care of the football.

And Busbee gave credit for turning their four takeaways against Tampa Bay into points.

"I'm not taking anything away from them. They maximized their opportunities," Busbee said. "Three of four of the turnovers they got yesterday ... were turned into scores."

"They're not completely bumbling into this by any means. But anytime you have things go your way, it's so much the better for you."

Jay Gruden himself said after the victory the Redskins are "winning ugly." But as another saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," and the Redskins are well on their way to riding this recipe of success to a division title.
