Redskins coach Jay Gruden says there are "no updates whatsoever" with left tackle Trent Williams, whose holdout continues as Washington prepares for its third preseason game.

The third preseason game is widely regarded as the dress rehearsal for the regular season, the last game in which the regular-season starters typically play significant minutes.

"There are no updates whatsoever," Gruden told reporters Monday when asked for an update on Williams.

"How hard is that for you to prepare with a dress rehearsal and then regular season really coming your way now?" a reporter followed up.

"Yeah. We're preparing with the guys we have right now. That's all we can do," Gruden said. "We're getting Geron (Christian) ready. We're getting (Donald) Penn ready. So we'll go that route."

With the current status quo, the Redskins are facing their first season without Williams – the fourth overall pick in 2010 – in a decade.

Williams' holdout is believed to be centered around a desire for more money, as well is his distrust for the organization's medical staff and its handling of a recent health scare, which resulted in Williams having a growth a tumor removed from his scalp.

Williams first failed to appear at the team's mandatory minicamp back in June, when it was reported he had requested either a new contract or to be traded. Williams, who underwent multiple cosmetic procedures over the offseason as a result of the initial operation, then missed all of Redskins training camp in Richmond

Reporter: With Trent, do you know has he stayed current on the playbook, the plays, all that?

Gruden: Trent's very smart. He can handle it.

Reporter: Have you actually talked to him at any point in the last couple weeks?

Gruden: Talked?

Reporter: Trent, yeah.

Gruden: Maybe.

Reporter: Texted?

Gruden: Texted, talked – maybe, yeah. It is what it is right now. He's not here, so we just gotta talk about the people we have.

The Redskins travel to Atlanta Thursday to play the Falcons.
