One year ago today, the Washington Capitals reversed decades of playoff torture and broken dreams for long-suffering D.C. sports fans, lifting an entire city as they raised Lord Stanley's Cup above their heads.

The moment was surreal for so many. How do you handle a moment you've been conditioned to know will never come?

Real or not, the words came flying from John Walton's mouth faster than he could spit them out:

THE WORDS THAT D.C. FANS HAVE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR SINCE 1974!

THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS ARE THE 2018 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!

IT'S NOT A DREAM!

IT'S NOT A DESERT MIRAGE!

IT'S LORD STANLEY!

AND HE.

IS COMING.

TO.

WAAAASHINGTON!

Relive every magical moment of the Caps’ unforgettable run to the Cup throughout the day Friday on 106.7 The Fan.
