Kevin O'Connell confident in Redskins line in lieu of Trent Williams

With just over three weeks until Week 1 of the NFL season, the Washington Redskins are still waiting for their Pro Bowl offensive tackle to end his holdout.

After Trent Williams skipped training camp and most of the Redskins offseason program, offensive coordinator Kevin O'Connell agreed his team has a different identity without No. 71 in the lineup.

"There's no denying that and every Redskin fan out there knows that he's an elite player," O'Connell told 106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman. "Obviously, nobody wants him back more than me. I'm right up there with every other guy walking in the halls of this building right now, we want him back badly.

"But we feel good about the depth that we have over there on that left side. It's still sorting itself out, both at the guard position and the tackle position."

MORE: Trent Williams as good as gone?

Williams, who has told friends he's prepared to sit out the season, reportedly lost trust with the organization after he believes they mishandled his medical situation during last season. He has reportedly asked for a trade and has sat out minicamp and training camp. The Redskins are reportedly uninterested in trading him.

O'Connell added getting the center, right guard, and right tackle combination of Chase Roullier, Brandon Scherff, and Morgan Moses back together healthy has been "a real bonus and a plus."

"We feel good about the depth," he added, mentioning 2019 draft picks Wes Martin and Ross Pierschbacher and free-agent signings. "Now it's just figuring out who those five guys are gonna be and letting them get as many reps as possible can."

Adrian Peterson: Williams' holdout impacts Haskins' development

O'Connell, however tongue-in-cheek, isn't above extending an olive branch to Williams publicly.

"There's no doubt if, Trent, you're out there and you're listening, man, we'd love to have you back as soon as possible."
