The Nationals have designated their Saturday, Sept. 8 home game against the Cubs as "Jayson Werth Appreciation Day."

When Werth announced his retirement from baseball in June, the Nats said they would pick a date in September to honor him. That decision has been made.

The Nats say fans who purchase a special ticket using this link will receive a limited-edition Jayson Werth themed t-shirt along with a lower-level ticket to the game. Discounted tickets are available for $28.

"Information regarding the t-shirt pick-up will be emailed to all special event ticket buyers 48 hours prior to the game date," the online promotion reads.

For fans who may have already purchased lower-level tickets to the game prior to its Werth Appreciation Day designation, there is still a way to obtain the limited-edition shirts. Those fans, as well as season-ticket holders, are instructed to contact Jennifer McCarty directly (by phone: 202.640.7648; or by email: to discuss purchasing a voucher that will allow them to obtain one of the limited-edition shirts.

Werth will also be inducted into the Nationals Park Ring of Honor.

"This prestigious honor has been bestowed on just two other Nationals - Frank Robinson and Ivan Rodriguez," the Nationals say. "Jayson gave Nationals fans a lot to celebrate from 2011 to 2017, leading the Nationals to the NL East Division title four times. Now we invite you to join us in celebrating Jayson Werth and his amazing career."

The Nationals have identified the date as a "Special Ticket Event," meaning tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the Nats Park box office.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
