The Washington Nationals are re-signing World Series hero Howie Kendrick, according to multiple media reports.

Kendrick, who was named MVP of the NLCS and hit the go-ahead two-run homer in Game 7 of the World Series, has agreed to a one-year deal worth $6.25 million, according to Radio.com Sports Insider Bob Nightengale.

The Washington Post's Jesse Dougherty reported the deal is expected to include a mutual option for the 2021 season.

The Nationals will likely use Kendrick to play first base this season, where he played 48 games in 2019. The Nationals could still re-sign Ryan Zimmerman to platoon at first and use Kendrick at second, as well.

Kendrick was a key cog in the Nationals lineup during the regular season, batting .344/.395/.572  and a 142 OPS+ with 17 home runs and 62 RBIs. In 17 games in the postseason, Kendrick had four doubles, two home runs, and 12 batted in while slashing .286/.328/.444.

Kendrick joined the Nationals before the 2018 season, which was cut short due to an Achilles injury. He turns 37 in July.
