Plaxico Burress: Dwayne Haskins 'may be the best player in the draft'

Retired NFL receiver and Super Bowl XLII champion Plaxico Burress doesn't think his Giants brought themselves any closer to a championship by drafting quarterback Daniel Jones.

In fact, Burress believes the Giants didn't even take the best quarterback available when they selected Jones sixth overall.

"I think this is the first time I've spoke about it on the air," Burress told Chad Dukes Monday on 106.7 The Fan. "Did we get closer to a championship? I don't believe so. I don't think that the Giants drafted the best quarterback available. I think they made the best decision for the organization. And I didn't understand. A lot of people don't.

"But you just hope this guy Jones can go out and play well and bring another championship to the city, which won't be good for you guys."

"But, just from a wide receiver who loves quarterbacks obviously, because they feed you, just looking at it from afar, and just looking at the two different styles of play, I think you guys may have gotten the best quarterback," Burress said. "But, you know, we'll see how that goes on later on down the road."

"Yeah, so, if the best quarterback available wasn't Daniel Jones," Dukes said, "I guess it was Dwayne Haskins?"

"It was Dwayne Haskins," Burress replied. "I believe so. Just from a player standpoint. I'm not inside of these college organizations – the coaches, the scouts and all of that. I just judge it from afar, what I see on television and production. That's how I judge it."

Asked what he likes about Haskins' game, Burress said, "Just watching him. I think he threw 50 touchdowns last year in college football, which I think is phenomenal."

"I think his touch and accuracy is something from a receiver's standpoint that you love, and I like him a lot," Burress continued. "I think he's (gonna) have a productive, exciting, long career.

"We just hope it's just not against us. But I wish him the best. I think that he may be the best player in the draft. But, you know, we're all just speaking about potential and what's the ceiling, and I think he doesn't have one. And I just wish him the best and for him to go out and have success and to enjoy a phenomenal career."
