President Donald Trump says Redskins owner Dan Snyder is "really a good guy" and he looks forward to attending a Redskins game at FedEx Field.

The president has yet to attend a game for any of the local professional sports franchises since he's been in office, although he recently hosted the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals at the White House.

During a radio interview with "The Larry O'Connor Show" on D.C.'s WMAL, which has a rights agreement with the Redskins to carry their game broadcasts, President Trump was asked if he plans to attend a Redskins game at FedEx.

"I know you're a football fan," O'Connor said. "Are you gonna go to a Redskins game at all? It's pretty fun out at FedEx."

"Well, I will, and actually, the owner, he's really a good guy," Trump said of Redskins owner Dan Snyder. "He's been a supporter and he's done a very good job. You have a good team. You've got to make sure that quarterback is gonna be healthy. Really, it's a game of quarterbacks.

"You see these teams that, all of a sudden when they hit gold, they get the right quarterback. It would be nice to pick a Tom Brady in the sixth round, but it doesn't happen that way. It never happened that way before. But the Redskins have a very good team. They need the solidity of the quarterback. I mean, unfortunately, I think they had a really good quarterback who got hurt.

"It was devastating," O'Connor said. "Yeah."

"Devastating," Trump replied, before inquiring about injured starter Alex Smith. "And I'll ask you, is he coming back?"

"Not this season," O'Connor answered.

Trump: "It was that bad of an injury?"

O'Connor: "Yeah."

"You know, it's funny because he went through many seasons of football," Trump said. "I think he's a really underrated quarterback. It's like they always sort of had somebody standing behind him. And he'd take San Francisco, he'd take – wherever he were, he'd do really well, and then they always sort of had a backup that took over."

"I think he's a very underrated guy," Trump said of Smith. "It's really too bad that he's not coming back, because I think he's a very good quarterback."

"President Trump, always great to speak with you, sir," O'Connor began wrapping up the interview. "We got to cover a lot of things and we're looking forward to seeing you at a Redskins game."

"Well, thank you very much," Trump said. "I look forward. We'll go together."
