Redskins rookie wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden tested positive for COVID-19, JP Finlay reports for NBC Sports Washington.

Gandy-Golden issued the following statement through his agent, via Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network:

“During my pre-draft training, I tested positive for COVID-19 on March 24. My symptoms thankfully were mild, but I self-quarantined for two weeks and followed all guidelines from health experts. I was fully cleared April 7. I feel 100% now and can’t wait to get on the field for the Redskins ASAP! #HTTR!!”

According to Gandy-Golden, he contracted the virus during the pre-draft process and came down with mild symptoms. Afterwards, he self-quarantined and dutifully followed the guidelines from CDC officials and is now in the clear. Gandy-Golden is the first Redskins player known to have tested positive for the disease.

Selected 142nd overall, Gandy-Golden was thought to be a steal for the Redskins in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He helped round out a promising offensive haul by Washington in the middle rounds, which also included running back/receiver Antonio Gibson in the third round and offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles in the fourth.
