Redskins 'blown away' by Daron Payne's ability

The Redskins suffered a key injury along the defensive line on Friday, when first-round pick Daron Payne had his ankle stepped on.

Payne will be in a walking boot for one week, and Redskins coach Jay Gruden expects him back "in two to three weeks."

106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman on Payne:

  • I am thoroughly confused by the lack of concern here.

  • He is so advanced in the playbook, where he knows everything already, that they’re not concerned that they’re going to throw him out there and he’s not going to know what to do. He is as ready to play, I guess, as any rookie they’ve had, and so, in that way, they are not concerned.

  • He is so extraordinarily strong. He's not a rookie in that sense. His body is not a rookie body. He is ready to play right now from a physicality standpoint.
