The Redskins have placed rookie receiver Cam Sims on injured reserve, 106.7 The Fan's Craig Hoffman has learned.

Sims suffered a high-ankle sprain on the opening kickoff in Sunday's 24-6 win over the Cardinals. Washington also lost rookie Trey Quinn to the same injury.

An undrafted rookie out of Alabama, Sims impressed Redskins coaches enough to keep him on the 53-man roster over veteran receiver Brian Quick. The Redskins re-signed Quick earlier Tuesday, signaling bad news was likely forthcoming about either Sims or Quinn, or both.

For now, only Sims heads to the IR and will undergo surgery. There is no update on Quinn.

Outside of Quick, the Redskins – who entered the regular season carrying six receivers – are down to three healthy options on the roster: Paul Richardson, Jamison Crowder and Josh Doctson. Quick makes four.
