Washington Redskins rookie Dwayne Haskins made his NFL debut in Sunday's game against the New York Giants, with head coach Jay Gruden benching starter Case Keenum trailing 14-0 in the second quarter.

In their fourth game under the direction of Keenum, the Redskins offense was again stagnant through a quarter-and-a-half of football against the Giants.

Keenum completed six of his 11 passes for 37 yards and no scores, twice missing a wide-open Trey Quinn streaking down the field ahead the Giants defense.

Keenum also threw a first-quarter interception, when a pass intended for Robert Davis bounced off the receiver's hands and straight into the air, an easy grab for Giants linebacker Ryan Connelly. The interception left the Giants with great field position, with them starting at Washington's 32-yard line and converting the turnover into seven points, for the first score of the game.

Keenum turning the ball over is a trend that carried over from the Bears game last Monday, when he threw three interceptions and fumbled twice.

Haskins moved the Redskins offense 39 yards on his debut drive, but had to settle for a Dustin Hopkins field goal after failing to put the ball in the end zone from the three-yard line.

Haskins quickly showed off his ability to improvise, scrambling for a 14-yard run on a second-and-9, taking the ball down to the one-yard line.

In all, Haskins completed two of four passes for 15 yards on his first NFL drive, but did more in his little time on the field, by coming away with three points, than Keenum had with his.

The Redskins trailed the Giants 17-3 entering halftime.

It's unclear who will start next week, when Colt McCoy is expected to return from his leg injury. What is clear is the Redskins offense belongs to Haskins for now. What he does with the opportunity is up to him.
