The Washington Redskins on Tuesday released veteran defensive back Orlando Scandrick

The 31-year-old signed with Washington in March after being released by Dallas, with whom he spent his first nine NFL seasons.

Jay Gruden confirmed the move minutes later at the podium, saying it had more to do with feeling confidence in their younger defensive backs – especially second-year corner Fabian Moreau – than with Scandrick's play.

The move could mean the Redskins have enough faith in Quinton Dunbar as a starting corner opposite Josh Norman. Former Redskins DB Will Blackmon publicly supports this assessment.

According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington, Washington has reached out to 32-year-old free agent Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
