Redskins' Ross Pierschbacher gives correct name pronunciation

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Redskins fifth-round pick, Alabama center Ross Pierschbacher, says he pronounces his last name 'Peersh-Baker' to honor his grandfather, who pronounced it that way.

"It's 'Peersh-Baker,'" Pierschbacher told 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier Monday. "My grandpa, they called it 'Baker,' and so just out of respect of the family, I go with 'Baker.' It looks like 'Bocker' for sure. I agree with that. But just out of respect of the elders, I'm gonna go with 'Baker.'"

"It's perfectly fine," Rouhier said. "You're the NFL player, not the rest of us, so we should adhere to that."

Only, Rouhier didn't adhere to that...

Minutes later, when reintroducing Pierschbacher to their listening audience, Rouhier stepped in it: "Ross 'Peersh-BOCKer' is on the line."

"BAKER," Paulsen jumped all over his co-host. "You botched it already."

"Baker!" Pierschbacher piled on. "We just talked about this."

"I did it again," Rouhier said ashamed. "I tried to overemphasize it, Ross, and I got through it, the first part."
