Cut one day, back on the team another: J.P. Holtz has returned to the Redskins as part of the practice squad.

Holtz initially joined the Redskins on Aug. 11, and some expected him to make the 53-man roster given his ability to play fullback. However, when cutdown day arrived, he was waived.

Holtz now has a second chance to impress the coaches enough to bring him onto the active roster and perhaps serve as the lead blocker for the likes of Adrian Peterson, Rob Kelley and Samaje Perine.

To make room on the 10-man practice squad for Holtz, the Redskins cut DL Cashaud Lyons.
