The Super Bowl XXVI MVP was jailed Sunday night in Spokane, Wash. after an incident involving his wife Sunday afternoon. He is expected to appear in court on Monday, per KHQ.com

Rypien spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Redskins, leading Washington to a 14-2 record and Super Bowl victory in the 1991-92 season.

Last year, Rypien talked publicly about the struggles he's had since retiring from the NFL, saying he has attempted suicide and suffers from depression and anxiety. He linked his struggles to the concussions he suffered during his NFL career.

"People think you have to be knocked out to have a concussion," Rypien told The Spokesman-Review in March of 2018. "There are hundreds of times you shake it off and get back in there. It's all about the cumulative hits. That's what cause brain damage."
