Redskins' Todd Bowles dream is over

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

For at least a brief few hours on Tuesday, Redskins fans were allowed to dream.

News surfaced that, along with moving on from defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, the Redskins had been in contact with former Jets head coach Todd Bowles.

Although the role being discussed was not revealed, one can certainly use their imagination.

If the Redskins were to decide to replace defensive coordinator Greg Manusky, Bowles was the optimal candidate. A former Redskins player, even!

That short-lived dream is dead. Bowles is reuniting with Bruce Arians – under whom he served as defensive coordinator in Arizona (2013-14) – in Tampa.

It's unclear when other changes are coming to the Redskins defensive staff, although, as Craig Hoffman reported, Gray's departure was only part of "a much bigger house cleaning" to come on that side of the ball.
