According to Baseball America, Minor League Baseball will officially announce the cancellation of its 2020 season Tuesday due to COVID-19.

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has been felt by baseball since Day 1, resulting in an early end to spring training in March. That was followed by a lengthy pause underscored by contentious labor negotiations between MLB and its Players Association.

After talks stalled, commissioner Rob Manfred implemented a 60-game season that the players finally agreed to on June 24. Teams will begin reporting to training camps on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, the 2020 MiLB season could not be saved as teams made substantial pay cuts during the pandemic, which included the release of countless minor league players.

MLB's 2020 campaign is expected to get underway Thursday, July 23, giving players a little over three weeks to dust off the cobwebs before Opening Day.
