Danny Ferry was in town for the D.C. Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Sunday. And could he soon be brought back to Washington on a permanent basis?

According to Ted Leonsis, Ferry is still in the running for the Wizards' general manager job, the team's owner told The Washington Times Sunday.

Ferry, a former DeMatha High School and Duke basketball star who previously served as the GM of the Cavaliers, Hawks, and on an interim basis with the Pelicans this past season, interviewed for the Wizards' opening after the April 2 firing of Ernie Grunfeld

Ferry was on with Grant & Danny last Friday and discussed his meeting with Leonsis

"I enjoyed meeting Ted, I had never met him before and got to know him a little bit," Ferry said. "That said, it's definitely more appropriate for the Wizards, as they're going through their process, to lead the process."

"But I did enjoy meeting him, and they're working obviously ... on free agency right now. They're focused on that, and right now I'm focused on just staying engaged in basketball."

Interim GM Tommy Sheppard has been running the Wizards' front office since Grunfeld's dismissal, overseeing the 2019 NBA Draft Thursday in which Washington selected Rui Hachimura and Admiral Schofield. Leonsis previously said he doesn't anticipate naming a permanent GM before the start of free agency on June 30.

It's been widely assumed after that declaration Sheppard would ultimately be named the permanent GM. But as Yogi Berra would say, "It ain't over 'til it's over."
