Trea Turner is back to doing Trea Turner things

The Nationals are clicking, winning 12 of their last 16 games, and a big reason for their recent run is shortstop Trea Turner.

Turner initially struggled after returning from the injured list due to a broken finger, hitting .254 in his first 15 games back in the lineup.

But in his last eight, Turner is batting .314 with three home runs, six doubles, 11 RBIs, and a 1.151 OPS. In Monday night's 12-1 thrashing of the White Sox, Turner finished a single short of the cycle, driving in two runs and scoring two more.

As Eric "EB" Bickel of The Sports Junkies noted, the Nats' offense as a whole has picked up with the likes of Turner healthy again and swinging the bat well.

"Don't ever forget when they were going through all those injuries and everyone just said, 'Well, everybody has injuries. The Yankees have more injuries," EB said Tuesday. "Certainly that was true to an extent, but it didn't take away from the fact that the injuries did impact them significantly."

"And now that they've come back from them, there's no denying that they're a different team. Are they world-beaters? No. Are they still huge underdogs? Sure. But they're a much better, different team now that their lineup's healthy."

Turner and the Nats remain six games back in the NL East standings, but with series against the Phillies and Braves on the horizon, this red-hot Washington squad has a chance to gain some serious ground over the next few weeks.
