Will Brinson is extremely bullish on Alex Smith and the Redskins in 2018.

The longtime NFL writer for CBS Sports shared some of his futures bets for the upcoming season with The Sports Junkies on Monday morning.

"Alex Smith, by the way, is somebody people should draft in fantasy football," he said, "because he might set a career high for passing attempts and the Redskins might throw it 700 times."

The Junkies recently placed bets amongst themselves on Smith/Redskins futures. When told of those bets, Brinson got in on the action. Here's how he foresees Smith playing in 2018:

Passing Yards: 4,325

Touchdowns: 29

Interceptions: 13

Completion Percentage: 66.5

Passer Rating: 98.7

"I don't think they have a redzone rushing attack," he explained of his touchdown prediction. "They're gonna have to throw."

That's a line of 4,325 yards (66.5%), 29 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a 98.7 passer rating.

Smith, for comparison, passed for 4,042 yards (67.5%), 26 touchdowns and five interceptions for a league-leading passer rating of 104.7 with the Chiefs in 2017.

Kirk Cousins owns the Redskins' single-season passing record with 4,917 yards in 2016. If Smith were to throw for 4,325 yards, it would be the second-best passing season in Redskins history, ahead of Cousins, who also threw for a franchise-best 4,166 yards in 2015. It would also mark a career high for Smith, surpassing his 2017 mark.

Brinson isn't alone at CBS Sports in predicting big things for Smith in the Redskins offense. His colleague, Ryan Wilson, believes the QB could be "in the MVP conversation" by the end of the year.

On a recent trip to Vegas – which he would qualify came before Derrius Guice went down for the season – Brinson says he placed several futures bets on the Redskins. Even more of a shock, he doesn't see the defending champion Eagles reaching the playoffs in 2018.

"I'm holding the Redskins-to-win-the-NFC-East ticket and a Redskins over ticket," he said. "So I'm bullish on the Redskins this year. It was 8-1. It was pre-Guice injury."

"Deep down," JP Flaim said, "you think Philly's going to win the division, right?"

"No. I think Philly's gonna miss the playoffs," said Brinson. "I bet $25 on Philly to miss the playoffs."

His explanation: "Carson Wentz is coming back from an ACL. Nick Foles is already battling a shoulder injury. They got injuries all over the place. Fat and happy after winning a title. Philly fans aren't even angry any more. And all three teams in the division got better this offseason."
